Launching October 2020- A Writing Collective for Black Girls

Griot Girls

"Documenting Black Legacies"


Griot Girls is a writing collective for Black girls in 7th - 12th grade led by Black women writers. We connect in community through composing, workshopping, and sharing our stories.


Launching in October 2020 and running through June 2021, Black girls in the program will be given a monthly prompt suggestion to be completed and submitted at the end of each of month. Throughout the month cohorts will have access to teaching artists and a monthly workshop where they will get to share and work through their writing drafts and ideas.


This program is recommended for storytellers and creative individuals who are:

- young Black and Brown women of African Descent

- open to discovery

- interested in storytelling, writing, and composing new works

- comfortable working and sharing in collaborative spaces

- capable of independent writing and brainstorming

- familiar and comfortable with digital submission
